“Waging am See” and the Local Area

The town of “Waging am See“ is located in the idyllic countryside of the  Alpine foothills close to the town of Berchtesgaden and the city of Salzburg.

You can discover the charming market town and its surroundings, taking leisurely strolls. Starting at the Wellnessgarten Hotel on the lakeshore, you can climb to “Mühlberg” hill past the hydrotherapy facility (Kneipp). Your efforts will be rewarded by marvellous views over the town of Waging and the picturesque countryside of the local area, commonly referred to as “Rupertiwinkel”.

There are many things to do and to see in our town and the surroundings. The town of Waging is home to the well-known and coveted “Bavaria Blu” Cheese, one of a wealth of cheese specialties produced by the independent “Bergader” Cheese Dairy. At its outlet in the town centre, you are welcome for a little tasting. In the surroundings of Waging, you can enjoy delightful walks, horse riding and bicycle tours. The homonymous lake, the warmest lake in Upper Bavaria, provides pleasant water temperatures for bathing in summer. In winter, when it is frozen, it becomes a fascinating ice expanse.

The town of “Waging am See” enjoys a convenient location. Notably, the city of Salzburg, the Austrian culture metropolis with its world famous festival is only a 30 minutes’ drive away. The health resort of Bad Reichenhall, the beautiful main town of Traunstein and the historic town of Burghausen with its annual Jazz Festival are also within easy reach.
